12/28/91 - Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Pearl Jam @ O'Brien Pavilion, Del Mar Fairgrounds
What a bill, right? The Chili Peppers were headlining, with Pearl Jam opening, and Nirvana second. (I even think I've heard that the Smashing Pumpkins were SUPPOSED to be a part of this as well at one point. Something about the Billy Corgan - Courtney Love - Kurt Cobain triangle?)
"Teen Spirit" was just starting to blow up on MTV, and Pearl Jam would follow a couple of months later. I had just turned 18 a month before this show, and was a freshman at UCSD.
Needless to say, this was a great night. I remember Eddie Vedder climbing up above the lighting rig as the band jammed on Even Flow. He went up top on one side of the stage, made his away across, upside down, above the crowd, and then all the way back down the other side and right back into the song.

What is this? Let's go to the show!
My buddies and I are avid music fans and supporters of local music (and some of us even play in local bands ourselves). We went to as many local shows as we could as we got out of high school and all through the 90's. SOMA, Che Cafe, Casbah, el Centro Cultural, Iguana's in TJ...
I've always tried to save as many ticket stubs and show flyers as I can.
We will be posting these here, along with a a few words and memories.
If you remember a particular show or concert, let us know. If you have a photo, even better. Send it our way!
Pass the word around.
We're currently 30-somethings, but we still get out during the weekdays and weekends as much as possible (despite kids, professions, age, you name it). But, there's nothing like the good old days...
